A Few Ways to Exercise Without Actually Trying

We have all experienced a little bit of a struggle when it comes to exercise, and we have all (well, most of us) failed at least a couple of times. Wouldn’t it be nice to get that daily workout in without actually feeling like you’re trying?

What if I told you that you can?

I am one of the worst people for saying that I’m going to go to the gym tomorrow, and then I never actually end up going. I always feel like it takes up too much time, or in all honesty, I’m just way too lazy. Because of this, I thought it would be a wonderful idea to try to find some fun ways to get that recommended daily exercise in.

Exercise is pretty much anything that elevates your heart rate for a prolonged period of time while taking your body outside of it’s physical comfort zone. This gives you the flexibility to work out the way you want to.

Here are some of my favourites I found:

Dancing

If you put on a playlist of your favourite tracks and decide to get down and boogie for a little while, guess what? You’re exercising. Granted, it may not be the most efficient way of doing it, but it’s still exercise! Maybe figure out what your favourite moves are and see if you can find a dance class in your area to take part in. Once you get going, you won’t want to stop!

Video Games

You’re probably thinking that I’m making this one up, but let’s not forget about our good friends Nintendo Wii and Xbox Kinect. Ahh, now you know where I’m going with this! Find a fun game to play with some friends, whether it’s Wii Tennis, Wii Fit, or Just Dance, I promise you will end up having fun. Don’t you remember those good old days of DDR (Dance Dance Revolution)? Those days were probably the best days of my life.

Cleaning

Okay, so maybe it’s not the most entertaining way to get some exercise in, but hey, at least you’ll be multitasking! Grab a partner or a friend and make a game out of it! See which one of you can clean your side the fastest, or maybe who can bust out the grooviest moves while vacuuming. Everything can be fun when you’re with your partner in crime!

Hiking

It may take a little bit more time to plan, but getting out into the wild with your best bud for some fresh air and beautiful scenery will brighten up your senses and get your heart rate pumping. Take a lunch, some hiking poles, plenty of water and a camera and you’ll probably end up having one of the best nature-bonding experiences ever.

Find a step tracker here to keep on top of your steps. See if you can beat your record the next time you go out for a hike!

What I’m trying to get across is that you really don’t need to be gym rat, for lack of a better word, to feel like you’re getting some exercise. Figure out when you have some free time to plan a little bit of me-time and go do something fun! Take that dance class you’ve been wanting to try out, or even just dance like no one’s watching in the comfort of your own home. Play a few video games with friends, or if you’re feeling adventurous, plan a small hiking trip for the day.

If you don’t want to go to the gym to run on a treadmill for two hours straight, then don’t. Your choices are endless and the world is your oyster, so do with it as you please!

Have you found a new way to exercise without feeling like you’re trying too hard? If you feel like sharing, I’d love to hear about it – even if it’s based on how much cleaning you got done that day!

Until next time,

Live long and prosper.
