By: Riley Welch, Writer and Student at Humber College
As a avid Country music fan I can tell who will have a big year. These artists are my personal favourite artists. When I fell in love with country I was a little boy-jamming out to Garth Brooks. As the years went on I quickly figured out what country really means. This year will be another stellar year for country. Here are the big names that are going have a big 2015:
- Chase Rice
Florida native Chase Rice is ‘cruising’ his way to the top with his latest single ‘Gonna Wanna Tonight’. The singer songwriter co-wrote the hit song ‘Cruise’ a couple of years ago. It’s been a long road for Rice; he played NCAA football for North Carolina. While playing in the NCAA he lost his father in a terrible accident. After his fathers passing he picked up the guitar and started to sing. His father gave him inspiration to go on and live his dream.
Rice released his latest album called ‘Ignite The Night’ has sky rocketed in the charts. After his first single ‘Ready Set Roll’ went number one for the first time in his career. He’s been building on it ever since. Rice was a star on the hit TV show ‘Survivor’ and now a rising star in Country music. 2015 is going to be bigger and better for Chase Rice Ready…Set…Go.
- Sam Hunt
Sam Hunt just Like Chase Rice once played football in the NCAA. Hunt is a singer songwriter that has major hit songs under his belt. He wrote the famous song ‘Cop Car’ that Keith Urban released as well as ‘Come Over’ by Kenny Chesney.
Hunt’s popularity exploded within a year. Last year’s Boots and Hearts in Bownmanville was one of his best shows all year. He had the crowned singing and dancing to every song. Don’t believe me? Watch him perform ‘Raised On It’
He just released his debut studio album ‘Montevallo’ that includes hits like ‘Leaving The Night On’ and ‘Take Your Time’. The Georgian native will only get bigger in 2015.
- Luke Bryan
There isn’t anyone that could crash Luke Bryan’s party in 2014. With the tragedy of losing his brother-in law to going number one with multiple hit singles, Luke Bryan had a year like no other. He went from a hit artist to superstardom with his latest album ‘Crash My Party’.
Luke Bryan just released his sixth single off of ‘Crash My Party’ and is about to drop his final Spring Break album in March. Bryan has been releasing Spring Break albums for years and will make his final curtain call for the part of his career. 2015 will only get bigger than 2014 for Luke Bryan as he set to go on his That’s My Kind Of Night Tour. Bryan has also announced his second tour of the year called Kick Up The Dust. This time around he will perform in six stadiums across the USA. - Florida Georgia Line
The group that made history with the hit song ‘Cruise’ as the longest number on the Billboards Top 100. If you said you haven’t heard of that song..well I think you have been living under a rock! Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley the best friends who met in College turned into Country’s top duo for the past couple of years. With the very successful debut album ‘Here’s To The Good Times’ and now their second studio album ‘Anything Goes’ pushed the duo into a different level.
FGL’s electrifying concerts gave them a great name in the business. Their collaboration with well-known producer Joey Moi brought them to a countless of hit singles and great success. This is only the start for Florida Georgia Line, 2015 is going to be the year of Anything Goes.
- Blake Shelton
Country artist turn to The Voice judge is having a huge year. The newly released album called ‘Bring Back The Sunshine’ has been a smash hit in the country world. ‘Neon Lights’ the first single off the new album turned into a number one hit by breaking his own record with 13th consecutive number ones.
Blake is also married to another country superstar Miranda Lambert. Shelton brings his own style of country music into the genre. It’s a mixture of ‘Bro Country’ into a Bluegrass style. Last year in the review mirror and new projects in the future, Blake Shelton isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
This year will be another great year of country music. There will be surprises and disappointments along the way but we can agree on one thing. There is no better time to love country music than right now! If you’re not a fan before I certainly hope you’re a fan now. Who do you think should be in the top five of 2015?
